Colds, Work, Birthdays, and a New Nephew!

Time for more updates!

Here’s a picture from Thursday, January 20:

Max is getting so good at sitting!

On Friday, January 21, we had a surprise birthday for Ryan’s dad. Gene was turning 50 on January 27, so Josh and Melissa got things organized for a surprise party the weekend before. Ryan, Nixon, Jaden, and I all helped decorate the kitchen and hid behind the counter when he got there. He was very surprised! He thought he was coming over to babysit Nixon and Jaden! Melissa made dinner for all of us, too, which was very nice of her! Especially since she was less than a month away from having her baby in addition to having her hands full with two little boys and her husband away for work!

Melissa got this bouncer out for Max... I think he's a little too big for it!

On Saturday, January 22, Ryan and I went to Banana Republic at the mall because we had a gift certificate. While Ryan was trying on some pants, I got Max laughing pretty good outside the dressing room. It was hilarious!! People at Banana Republic seem pretty snooty, though… No one smiled at him at all despite his cuteness and everyone acted like I was totally out of place… I was glad to go when we finished shopping! On our way home, Ryan noticed in the rearview mirror that Max’s hood on his jacket had fallen down over his eyes, which he typically hates. So, I pulled it up for him to get it out of his eyes. Next thing we know, Max is actually TRYING to pull the hood back down over his eyes! I guess the sun was getting in his eyes and he just didn’t like it!

Here are some pictures from that day:

Annnnnnnd he's out! He didn't even get started!

During the night between Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd, Max cut his second tooth! This one was also on the bottom! Front left this time! So now our little guy has both of his front bottom teeth and they are so cute! Sharp, but cute!

On Monday, January 24, I busted out some of Max’s 9-12 month clothes. We bought one particular outfit last February after we found out that Max was a boy and I loved it! I thought it would be perfect for Max to wear on his first birthday. Of course at that time, we thought the size meant he could start wearing the outfit at 12 months rather than at 9 months. Despite this, I was shocked to see how well this outfit fit him already--3 months early!! It broke my heart to realize how big my baby boy is getting!

Also on the 24th, I got some appointments set up… Max’s pediatrician’s office called and told us we needed to reschedule Max’s 9 month check up, so it is now going to be on April 18. I set up an appointment with a diabetes doctor for myself on February 24 since I haven’t seen one since before Max was born. And I ordered diabetes supplies, which I haven’t done in a while! I hate making phone calls… That’s why when I have to make them, I do them all at once!

Yummy avocado!

See food!

On Tuesday, January 25, I got a phone call from my old boss at Walgreens. I was bathing Max when he called, so I didn’t answer and he left me a message. He asked if I would be interested in coming back to work. I’ve been looking for a job since October and have had no luck, so I was a little taken aback and I struggled with the thought of going back to work for the rest of the day. As much as we need the money, I was having a really hard time even thinking of going back. I called the next day and accepted the job. I’m working there three days a week now--my typical schedule is supposed to be Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Here are some pictures of Max in the tub that day. It was the first time we tried a bath without his support piece! He did good, but laying him down in the water was a little scary for both of us!

After I accepted the job on January 26, Ryan came home and took Max and I out for ice cream as a sort of celebration/consolation thing for me… We were bad and let Max lick a taste of ice cream from both of us! That’s the first time ever we have let him have something he’s not supposed to have. And sadly, he didn’t even seem to enjoy it! HaHa. He wasn’t impressed with yummy ice cream… Little goober!

Max is typically a good little sleeper… Thanks to teething, though, he’s had a few rough nights recently. Wednesday, January 26, was one of those nights. He started throwing up and we weren’t sure why, but he cried and wailed here and there all night long… I was exhausted the next day! I’m used to getting a full night of sleep!

After going to bed on Thursday, January 27, Max saved my life! He started crying again during the night and in the time it took to calm him down, I realized my blood sugar was low! So Ryan got me a pudding cup to get my blood sugar back up. I’m grateful for my boys who take such good care of me!

Max has started doing this thing recently where he becomes a total camera ham… LOL! A lot of times when he’s upset and crying, he’ll stop and be happy when I start taking his picture and play Peek-A-Boo behind the camera! It doesn’t always work, but most of the time, it does!

Max on his playmat!

HaHa, watch the transformation! He starts off so sad...

See how happy he gets?! LOL!

On Friday, January 28, Ryan’s brother Cameron needed a ride because his car was having problems. He hung out with us for the evening. We dragged him all over the place trying to find new shirts for me to wear to work (I successfully wore a lot of my pre-pregnancy clothing throughout my pregnancy but as a result, they all stretched out and now look terrible on me). We finally found some at Papaya at the mall, where Little Max smiled and flirted with the cashier. He’s such a ladies’ man!

Here are some photos from that day:

Little Max was upset in the car when we were taking Uncle Cameron home until I started taking his picture... LOL!

By Saturday, January 29, we realized that the throwing up Max had been doing for the past several days had come along thanks to a cold… Max’s first ever cold!! Poor baby. It’s been miserable for him! We’ve been doing everything we can for him--we bought a saline nasal spray, we use his nasal aspirator frequently, we have him sleeping on an incline to help with drainage, we bought a humidifier, and we’ve been using an off-brand baby vapor rub on his chest, neck, and bath. He’s had the cold for over a week now, and it finally seems to be getting better. He hasn’t thrown up at all for the past three days!

To make matters worse, I started my first day of work that afternoon. I didn’t even get to stay home to help take care of him! But, my first day of work wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. Ryan and Max came to visit me, which made things a little better as well.

By Sunday, January 30, I had caught Max’s cold… I still have my cold today! But I’m over the worst of it now. The whole week was hard, though--having to take care of someone else when you are not feeling well yourself is more difficult than I had anticipated!!

My mom invited us over for dinner on Sunday night. It was nice to see her and visit! She and Russ bought a pack ‘n’ play for Max for their house which was very nice of them! Especially since he rolls so much--we can set him in there while he’s sleeping and not worry about him now!

Apparently you start to lose muscle in your legs after sitting on your butt for almost seven months… On Monday the 31st, after working for two days, my legs were sore from standing and walking around so much!! We celebrated Chainda’s birthday that afternoon at my dad’s house. Chainda turned 14 on January 30, but we celebrated the day after.

I tried to spike Max's hair... It didn't work so well! It just ended up looking crazy!

Ryan won this Pink Panther for Max in the claw machine. Max loves it! He wrestles with it and he fell asleep hugging it this day!

With the coming of my cold, I’ve lost my voice… If Max is resisting his bottle, Ryan and I sing “You Are My Sunshine” (in honor of my Grandma Green--that was her favorite song) and he starts eating better immediately. On Wednesday, February 2, Max just laughed hysterically at me while I was singing. I sounded terrible because my voice was cracking and I kept losing it!

Here are some pictures from that day:

By Thursday, February 3, Ryan had caught the cold bug going around in our house! He had a crappy weekend trying to take care of Max while being sick, just as the week had been for me! Poor guy. I think he’ll start slowly get feeling better after today, though. That’s how it worked for me!

Here are some pictures from Friday, February 4:

Obsessed with the feet, no matter where he is!

Let me stay naked!!

On Saturday, February 5, we went to Ikea when I got home from work. We needed new slats for Ryan’s side of the bed because his are broken and they shift while he’s laying in bed and he sinks… They ended up being more expensive than we remembered so we didn’t get them. We decided we’re going to try using a stapler to reattach the pieces. We did wind up getting some new pots and pans while we were there, though. I accidentally burned one of our non-stick pots a few days before when I was steaming pears for Max. It was burned to the point of being unsalvageable… Ryan was excited to get new ones, though. Our Teflon has been chipping for a while now and he’s really wanted to switch to stainless steel, so that’s what we got. While we were at Ikea, Max got hungry, so I fed him while Ryan got dinner for us. I met another woman who had a tiny little four month old while we were waiting for Ryan. He was tiny because he was born two months premature!! He was cute, though. Max yelled at him. And he yelled at a lot of other people as they walked by! After he was in such a yelling mood, we took him downstairs in the elevator and I was convinced he was going to yell in there, too. Instead, he stared at this woman and her daughter and got this huge smile on his face before laughing hysterically! It was pretty cute. Ryan’s convinced I tickled him, but I didn’t! He’s just a social little flirt… LOL!

I worked again all weekend. This weekend was harder than my first! I guess it just kind of him me that Ryan and I have no time off together… Which kind of sucks. Ryan works Monday through Friday, and I work Friday through Sunday. It’s really hard to not have a single day off together. I miss him as much as I miss Max!!

When I got off work on Sunday, February 6, we went to my dad’s house. My dad is turning 45 tomorrow but he has to work, so we celebrated his birthday on Sunday.

We mentioned that Max is outgrowing his car seat a week or so ago. I was planning to just ask everyone for cash or Babies “R” Us gift cards if anyone wanted to get me something for my birthday next month, but my dad and Michelle bought one for us! So we took it home with us Sunday night. We haven’t set it up yet, but I’m pretty excited about it! It can face the rear until he’s a year old, and then it can face the front. When he’s big enough, it turns into a booster seat and can hold up to 100 pounds! We really appreciate all that our families do for us and would like to thank my dad and Michelle for their kindness!

My newest little nephew was born today! Melissa wasn’t due until February 14, but they induced her early because Cody is going to be away for work again next week, I think. My new nephew’s name is Boston McKay Thomas! He was seven pounds, nine ounces. He had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice, so Melissa only got to hold him for a second before they took him to the NICU. She texted me not long ago to tell me that he was out but that they are keeping him (in the nursery, I think) until his body temperature gets up. Keep their family in your thoughts! I haven’t seen a picture of him yet and it will probably be at least another week before we get to go see him because we are still recovering from being sick. But we are very excited for the newest member of their family!

Max has been trying very hard to crawl lately and he loves to sit! I keep thinking he’ll crawl any day… But it hasn’t happened yet. I guess it will just happen when it happens!

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. Thank you all for stopping by and catching up on our lives!
