We did a lot of shopping around in June in preparation for Max’s birthday--we had to figure out how to make a cake, who was cheapest for party favors and food, get invitations made, etc. June 2 was one of those days! Max and I went to Robert’s that day and a woman in the store gave him his first balloon. I’m still worried about balloons… Max puts everything in his mouth, and after friends of my in-laws lost their son because of a balloon, I just don’t like them. So he got to hold his balloon in the store, but that was it! He didn’t seem to like it much, anyway. He mostly just wanted to chew on the string! We also went to the bank that day and Max got his first sucker. Ryan and I let him try it a few days later. He liked it a lot, but boy, was he sticky!
Anyway, here are some pictures we got that day…
The new cake pan we bought to practice making Max's cake. He would NOT let go of it--not even so the cashier could scan it!
Funny faces!
Getting tickled by Grandma at dinner!
My baby is hilarious. On June 3, he woke up and before I got to his room, I could hear him squealing and laughing. I still have no idea what he was laughing at, but it was just so gosh darn cute that I didn’t want to get him out of his crib. But of course, I did. I couldn’t leave him there all day, after all!
Maximus helping me with laundry!
On Saturday, the guys at Ryan’s work couldn’t figure something out on the computer, so they called him. He explained to them how to open a program, but they couldn’t figure it out. So, while I was in the shower, Ryan took Max to work with him to show them. It was really weird to be home along without my boys… This is the first time I’ve been home completely by myself since before Max was born!
Max likes to bounce. He likes to move, I don’t think he’s stopped moving since long before he was born! His head bobs and swings into my face sometimes. On this particular day, he swung his head hard enough into my face that my teeth went into my lip! He made me bleed… Sad day. It stung, but I’m really glad I had my mouth closed and his head didn’t get cut open!
He’s a cute little pain in the butt. So is his daddy.
On Monday, I made a practice cake for Max. Man, oh man, I was sure he was going to get a tummy ache--that cake was sweet! We decided to do a rubber ducky theme for Max’s party, because he loves his rubber duckies, so I wanted to make him a rubber ducky cake to go along with it. I needed blue frosting to make “water,” and I decided the best flavor for blue water was cotton candy! We let him sample his cake that night. He liked it a lot!
He finally gets a taste! And he LOVES it!
Max sure loves his Daddy!
Silly boy!
Playing in the crib with Daddy!
On Tuesday, Max and I had to get up a little early because I had an appointment in Salt Lake. I don’t get up early now that I don’t go to work at 7:30 a.m.! I must have been really tired that day, because I almost brushed my teeth with Max’s toothpaste instead of my own that morning!
My appointment in Salt Lake that day was at St. Mark’s Hospital. I was meeting with a diabetes educator (who was also a dietitian) to talk about a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). Because of my scary, random low blood sugars, my dad and his fiancée drove us in my car. I learned a bit about the CGM and we talked about my blood sugars and my diet and stuff. She said she could set me up on a seven day trial with the monitor I’d chosen, but it was out with another patient at that time, so I had to schedule an appointment to come back.
After the appointment, my dad and Michelle took Max and me to lunch at Rubio’s. I also realized that on the way there, my dad had paid for gas for my car… I told him I would pay him back, but he insisted it was a “Daddy-Daughter Date” and told me not to worry about it. My dad is a pretty sweet guy!
Max and I finished one of our Father’s Day gifts for Ryan on Wednesday… I love these shirts!
And here's the little ducky after his bath that day!
Max has been eating Cheerios lately… Kind of… He likes to pick them up off of his tray one by one and drop them overboard onto the floor! It’s kind of funny, but it kind of drives me nuts, too! It’s a good thing we switched to a hardwood floor instead of carpet, because I don’t know how I’d get the messes he makes out of carpet!!
Helping Mom with laundry, LOL!
Late night shopping with Mom!
My stupid blood sugars have been driving me nuts! I woke up at 2:00 a.m. and felt low. My blood sugar was 38! Ryan poured me about 60 carbs worth of juice, and he refused to let me give myself ANY insulin for it (typically 15 carbs should be enough to get me up). 20 minutes later, I was up to 75. At 3:00 a.m., I was 92. At 4:30 a.m., I was 81. When I woke up, I was at 121. My blood sugar should have been sky high!! Ugh.
Anyway, when Ryan got home from work that day, he had a surprise… He’d been given a gift certificate for The Mayan at work. So, we took Max there that night. The little guy was so funny--he kept saying “Waaaawww,”--almost like he was trying to say “Wow!” It was so cute. He loved it! Max’s 12 month pants have started turning into floods, so we stopped at The Children’s Place in the mall on our way home and found some pants on sale. They are huge on him, though! LOL. Oh, well. I guess he has some time before he needs pants rather than shorts!
Max's new pants--18 months size!
On Saturday, we went to see my dad. He made us dinner and he had a new toy for Max--a swing! I think Max liked it a lot. Though he conked his head a few times--he didn’t quite know how to hold it steady at first!
Hangin' out on the patio!
Ready for dinner!
Back in the swing!
Maximus with Grandpa and Grandma!
Playing on the trampoline!
Mia and River wanted to hang out on the chair with Klay!
Here’s that sucker Max got from the bank!
June 13 was one of those days during which I just felt blessed. Life was just so different at this time last year… I was pregnant and had no idea how different my life would be in less than a month. And this past year has just been incredible--I have loved being a mom and I have loved watching my sweet little baby grow and learn new things.
We let Max try a popsicle this night. He was pretty funny… He seemed to like the taste, but every time he took a lick, his face scrunched up like he had a brain freeze. I didn’t get any pictures of it, but here are some other pictures I got that day!
The daily mess in my kitchen... Max loves playing in the drawers!
As soon as he woke up on Thursday, Max had me cracking up. Before I even had a chance to get him out of the crib, he had tried to get his shirt off… LOL! And then during breakfast, he pulled his knees up in his high chair, which is something he’s never done before. He was so silly!
Ryan went with me later that day to St. Mark’s Hospital--I actually got to go home with the CGM this time! It was cool. It was big and bulky and kind of hard to get used to, but I’m glad I got to try it out.
LOL, my silly little troublemaker!
Pulling up his knee!
He always goes for the camera lens...
Comfy little guy!
Silly boy! :-P
Trying to get Momma's make up out of the bag!
Max trying to get the rug!
Ryan usually does the dishes, but on nights that he has class, I do them. These are all the things Max pulled out of the drawers and left on the kitchen floor that day… Little stink bug!
My first night with the CGM was interesting… I fought low blood sugars for over two hours before going to bed, and then starting at midnight, my blood sugar went higher and higher all night long. That’s the good thing about the CGM, though--I can track trends and figure out where to make changes!
Since we first moved into our house, Ryan has loved getting the mail. It’s actually really funny! I got the mail once and he was so bummed that he didn’t get to bring it in that day. So, I’ve let him get it ever since! But, the bad thing about that is that I don’t see all the mail… Ryan is usually pretty good about sorting through it and getting out the important mail, but we still have a big pile of junk mail until we decide to trash it all every so often. On this particular day, I was really glad I went through it before I threw it all away. This is because I had a letter from the Driver’s License Division… Part of being a diabetic means that I have to have my doctor sign a paper saying I can drive every year. I forgot to sign the paper myself before I sent it in this year, though, so they sent it back to me clear back in March and told me that if I hadn’t signed it and returned it within 30 days, I couldn’t drive… MARCH!! I’d been driving illegally for three months! I signed the paper and had Ryan fax it right away… Hopefully I’m driving legally now!
Some couponers really bug me… I work as a cashier and I have coupon customers every day. I’m okay with most of them, but there are some who take it too far and others who are neglectful when it comes to their children while they are busy couponing. The neglectful mother is the customer I met this day… As I rang up this woman for three cases of bottled water, she told me that she had walked to the store that day… It was just her and her baby who was only about a year old. She had him in a stroller… She tried putting the water in front of her baby in the stroller, and it kept falling into his lap or onto the floor. So she tried putting it on the sun shield above her baby’s head… I was paranoid that it was going to fall through onto the little guy’s head, but instead, it tipped the stroller over backwards. The only reason the poor kid didn’t biff it is because by this point, I was on the same side of the counter as he was and I grabbed the stroller before it fell too far. She fit one under the stroller in the little basket thing, but it was so heavy that it dragged on the ground… In the end, she put one case of water in each of those three places and walked home… She was complaining to her son and kept telling him that he wasn’t allowed to come with her next time, as though it was his fault that she was such an idiot…
Anyway, we missed out on the Strawberry Days Parade that morning because I had to work, but we went to the carnival after I got home. We didn’t go on any rides, but we walked around. I think Max enjoyed seeing all the fun things at the booths!
Ryan with our funnel cake!
Daddy and Max after the carnival!
Sunday was Father’s Day--Ryan’s very first one! Max and I made matching T-shirts for him and Max used crayons for the first time to make him a card. Max got to try strawberries for the first time that day, too--I made strawberry cheesecake pancakes for breakfast that morning. They were yummy and SO much better than the ones from IHOP! We hung out at home all morning, then we went to see my dad in the afternoon and Ryan’s dad that evening.
Max loving his breakfast!
Daddy's breakfast--my cheesecake pancakes are SO much better than IHOP's!
Max in his new shirt... SO cute!!

Grandpa Leonard and sleepy Max!
Grandpa Nelson taking a nap on Father's Day!
Max’s new favorite food is cheesecake! He definitely liked leftover pancakes for breakfast!
I ordered a bunch of stuff from Oriental Trading for Max’s birthday, and it all arrived at our house on Monday. The piñata I ordered ended up being quite a bit smaller than I expected… I was only able to stuff one bag of candy into it!
Awake from his nap and ready to meet his new ducky friends!
He loved the duckies. :-) P.S. I did wash every single one of those before they went into the goody bags! I also washed the bubbles that went into them, too...
Max with his piñata!
Max is getting good at getting his clothes off… Today it was his pants!
I had a headache on Wednesday… The only thing I could find to take for it was acetaminophen, but for some reason, I can’t take that while I’m on the CGM… Apparently it can really screw up the sensor! So I was stuck with a headache all day…
Max had fun in the tub that day, though!
Maximus is such a good little eater! He will seriously try anything and there is not much he doesn’t like! He had crab and spinach lasagna for dinner this night and he LOVED leftover pulled pork sandwiches at lunch! Though the pork left him very messy… I let him run around in his diaper all day until we went to take my sister some dinner at work that night. Then he wasn’t very happy about being in clothes again…
Ryan brought home some flowers for me when came home from school that night. I sure do love my sweetheart of a husband!
I had to take the CGM back to St. Mark’s Hospital on Friday. Max and I got all the way up there and then we were reminded that I’d left the charger for it at home. Our only option was to return it that day before 5:00 p.m., so we ended up making two trips to Salt Lake that day all on our own… It was not a lot of fun, but Max did really well, so I was thankful for that. We also stopped to see one of my Aubrey friends for a minute. She made Max a pillow for us for his birthday, so we stopped to pick it up from her. It’s way cute. I’ve got a shot or two of it in Max’s birthday pictures (which are already on Facebook and which will be on here soon). If anyone is interested in buying one from her, let me know and I’ll give her your info! She does all sorts of pillows and bags and stuff!
Anyway, here are some pictures from the day!
"Helping" Mom with laundry, as he usually does!
Asleep at lunch!
Still asleep when we're about to head out for a drive...
Max trying to play with Gavin after a very long day!
Saturday was such a busy day for us… We took Max to the parade in Lehi that morning since we missed out on all the other ones during the month. He fell asleep, though, so we didn’t stay for too long!
Man, the sun is bright!
The fire truck honked... It scared Max!
Max and Mommy at the parade!
Max was pretty excited when I let him hold a piece of candy that landed by him. :-)
Go AF!
Aaaaaaaaaaaand he's asleep! ;-)
I guess it was pretty dumb of me to not think about sunscreen for myself at the parade… A month and a half from now I have to wear a strapless dress at my dad’s wedding!!
After the parade, we went to get Ryan fitted for his tux for my dad’s wedding, and later that night, I had an engagement photo session to do in Provo Canyon. I’m a super slacker and don’t have a full post up yet, but you can see a couple photos on my business blog--http://aubreyhopephotography.blogspot.com.
After that, I spent some time with my husband and my son blowing bubbles. We had a pretty good day!
Max isn't a real big fan of grass!
"Save me from the grass, Daddy!"
Max LOVES bubbles!
Blowing bubbles with Daddy!
I had to work Sunday morning. Ryan said Max took his first steps while I was there. I can’t believe how fast my little guy is growing up!
Max is getting good at tempter tantrums… He screams and fake cries to get attention all the time! Here are some of his facial expressions when he does this…
We took Max to the mall that afternoon and let him try some cotton candy out of cotton candy machine!
We played outside for a little bit that evening…
And then we played inside until bedtime!
Trying to climb up on the gliding ottoman...
Please excuse the mess... The little guy is a tornado and it's hard to keep up with him!
Look at him standing all on his own!
Blah... I look gross, but Ryan's cute in this!
I like lazy days with my baby… ;-)
HaHa, yup. We are both scrounges!
Max figured out how to work the buttons on our air purifier that evening… Silly monkey!
Here are some pictures I got of Max on Tuesday…
Max and I also witnessed our neighbor washing his rocks that evening… It was odd!
Ryan apparently couldn’t find a piece of paper to write down a phone number, so I discovered said phone number on Max’s butt after I put on his diaper today… My husband is such a nerd, LOL!
On Thursday, I was doing some laundry. Max was playing in his room and was just fine, so I left him alone to go get a load out of the dryer. When I reached the top of the stairs, this is what I saw…
He pushed his little chair up to the window and climbed on the arm of the chair to look outside… Outside of his window, there is a little roof over our patio. Right below the patio is the hot tub. I almost had a heart attack when I saw this!!
Anyway, that does it for June. I have a million things going on right now, but I’ll get July posted as soon as I can!! Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!
